Cruinniú na bhFliúit -The Flute Meeting

March 31st - April 2nd 2016

Bunaíodh Cruinniú na bhFliúit sa bhliain 2006 agus is é an t-aon féile cheoil atá tiomnaithe go hiomlán do sheinnt ar an bhfliúit, ina foirmeacha go léir. Bíonn sé ar siúl i sráidbhaile Gaeltachta Bhaile Bhuirne agus cuirtear tús leis gach bliain ar an nDéardaoin i ndiaidh Domhnach Cásca, agus bíonn ranganna, léachtanna, seisiúin agus coirmeacha ceoil ar siúl ar feadh an trí lá a mhaireann sé. Mic léinn as gach aoisghrúpa, ó gach tír agus ar gach leibhéal cumais a bhíonn ag triail ar an bhféile seo agus freastalaíonn gach mac léinn ar rang amháin le gach ceann de na ceithre mhúinteoirí ardchlú. Ní dhéantar scagadh ar na ranganna ná ar an leibhéal cumais na mac léinn. Tá teorainn leis an méid daoine a bheidh sna ranganna agus is gá do mhic léinn réamhchlárú a dhéanamh maidir leis na ranganna sin, chun a n-áit a chinntiú.

As some of you may already have heard, the Arts Council has made draconian cuts in its grant aid to many music based festivals. Our funding from the Arts Council has been reduced to zero, as has the funding for two other Munster Gaeltacht traditional music based festivals, Scoil Cheoil an Fhearraigh, and Tionól Nioclás Toibín.

This is putting us under a lot of financial pressure, and as a result, we have been forced to increase our attendance fees, and to cut our cloth to suit the measure in other ways as well. However we are determined that Cruinniú na bhFliúit will go ahead in it's 10th anniversary year despite all of this.

FLUTEMEET-THE MOVIE

Last year we decided to make a short film about Cruinniú na bhFliúit as a simple way of letting potential students see what we do and how we do it.

We think it does that admirably...

The film was filmed by local man Cathal Twomey, who has contributed many of the photos that you've seen on this website over the years, and edited by Holly Ní Ghráda

For first timers, or those who want to indulge in a warm bath of nostalgia, have a look here for a short film made at last year's event which we hope will encourage you to attend, and our regulars to come back. Clicking on the photo or red text (MOVIE) above will also get you there. We're happy to announce that this year's event will take place from Thursday 31st to Saturday 2nd April. As usual Cruinniú na bhFliúit will run from the Thursday after Easter Sunday to the following Saturday. Although official events begin on Thursday morning with registration for the classes, traditionally people gather at The Mills Inn, Baile Bhuirne on Wednesday night to greet old and new friends and play a few tunes.

Teachers for this year are here.

For new attendees, please note that it is necessary to register in advance to attend classes.

GIVEN THAT THIS YEAR SEES THE CELEBRATIONS SURROUNDING THE CENTENARY OF 1916, AND THAT THESE WILL BE CENTERED AROUND EASTER WEEKEND, WE ADVISE EARLY BOOKING FOR THOSE TRAVELING TO THE CRUINNIÚ, ESPECIALLY FROM OUTSIDE IRELAND.

Registrations now open here
